Swimming Lesson Registration
Swimming Lesson Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: When does Registration Open?
A1: Registration typically opens the second week of May. All schedules and updates are published on this website and the Splash Pool Facebook Page by the end of April so people have time to figure out which classes they will register for.
Q2: How many lessons should my child complete each summer?
A2: The swimming lessons are designed so that a child should successfully complete one level each year. If a child starts Swimmer 1 at 6 years old, they will be the perfect age upon completing the Swimmer levels to move on to the Bronze and lifeguarding lessons. If a child is pushed through multiple levels each year, there will be a point where they will be restricted by age again if they are choosing to pursue lifeguarding.
Q3: What level should my child start at?
A3: If a child is 3 years-old, Pre-school 1 and then progress with each passed level. If a child is 6 years old, Swimmer 1 and then progressed with each passed level.
If your child is older than 3 and 6, and has a lot of confidence in the water, they may be evaluated to start at a higher level. We offer free swimming evaluations during our public swimming times. You can attend during public swimming and ask the lifeguard for an evaluation, and they can inform you which level to start at. Instructors also have the authority to advise a child be moved up or down a level once a lesson has started, as long as there is room in the appropriate class and approval from the parent.
Q4: My child turns 3 OR 6 in September, can't I register them for Preschool 1 OR Swimmer 1?
A4: No. The reason being is we have upwards of 700 students through our swimming lessons each summer. Children who have been waiting since the previous September need to use the limited number of spots available for the age appropriate class. Holding a child back for one summer will not have detrimental affects to their swimming ability in the long run.
Q5: My child struggles to learn in groups OR has a diagnosed learning/physical disability OR needs an EA in school. What should I do?
A5: We do offer private swimming lessons, with our priority being to these children. If you are interested in private lessons please reach out to us at recreation@townofbeausejour.com to be added to the registration list.
